On october the 31th in 1996 the Interessengemeinschaft der Bahnspediteure (IBS) was founded by eight forewarders from Germany and Scandinavia, who are involved in railway transports mostly or exclusively. Many interested railway forewarders were present at the founding meeting, and so were the parliamentary secretary from the ministry of transport, Mr. Nitsch, the senator for construction and traffic from Berlin, Mr. Klemann and Dr. Sinnecker, a member from the board of DB Cargo. They unanimously appreciated to the founding of an association for the support of the environmentally friendly traffic system railway. So they confirmed their assistance for archieving the common target: "More traffic via railway." On january the 1st in 1997 the IBS was entered as a registered society at the local court of Charlottenburg. Since then the IBS comprises 18 active und 53 associated members from Germany, France, Belgium, Austria, Switzerland, Poland, Sweden, Finland, Spain and Czechia.
