On April 11 and 12, our members and guests gathered in Helsinki for the 51st IBS Congress. The first day started with our traditional workshop, which covered exciting topics such as the current situation in Finnish rail freight transport, logistics and transport options with Finland across the Baltic Sea, horizontal loading systems and new options for the transportation of non-craneable trailers by rail.
On the second day, the General Assembly was on the agenda, where the discussion focused on “multimodal freight transport”. The support provided by rail capacity brokers played a key role in improving the efficiency and flexibility of transportation. In addition, we explored possibilities for bundling transport via regional “multifunctional terminals”, which enable optimal use of the infrastructure and simplify logistics processes.
In view of the growing importance of rail freight transport, we emphasized the need for increased cooperation with Finland and highlighted the importance of new ferry connections for rail wagons in the Baltic Sea.
We also discussed the challenges and opportunities for rail freight transport in the Baltic States and their integration into the European transport network. Finally, we were also pleased to introduce our new members RailCargo, CFL multimodal and Vossloh RailWatch GmbH .
Thanks to all speakers and participants for their valuable contributions and inspiring thoughts! Special thanks go to our hosts the VR Group and. Thank you for your support.
We are already looking forward to an exciting 52nd IBS Congress on October 10 and 11 in Istanbul.
